Construction of Xudapu 4 under way

Construction of unit 4 at the Xudapu nuclear power plant in China's Liaoning province has officially got under way with the pouring of first concrete for the reactor's nuclear island. The unit is the second of two VVER-1200 reactors at the site to be supplied by Russia.


Canadian MoUs advance microreactor deployment

Westinghouse and the Saskatchewan Research Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a project to locate an eVinci microreactor in Saskatchewan, while an MoU between McMaster University, Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC) and Global First Power will further examine the feasibility of deploying USNC's Micro Modular Reactor at the university or an affiliated site.
 


EDF revises up cost of nuclear power plant outages

The French nuclear power operator EDF says that the programme of inspections and repairs related to the stress corrosion issue means it has increased the hit it expects to take to its earnings by a further EUR4.5 billion (USD4.7 million) from the EUR14 billion estimated at the start of May.


Hunterston B defuelling operations begin

EDF Energy has started removing the used fuel from the core of Hunterston B's Reactor 3, an advanced gas-cooled reactor that shut down in November 2021. Defuelling is the first stage of the nuclear decommissioning process.


Seaborg and BEES sign MoU relating to floating Compact Molten Salt Reactor

Best Engineering in Energy Solutions and Seaborg have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate with South Korean regulators to identify and meet requirements for the construction and export of the Danish company’s floating nuclear power plants.

Regulator backs Fukushima water discharge plan

Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority has endorsed Tokyo Electric Power Company's plan to discharge treated water from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea. It will give its official approval of the plan following a 30-day public comment period.

French regulator gives update on corrosion issue

Bernard Doroszczuk, President of France’s Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire, told a parliamentary hearing that the "discovery of unexpected stress corrosion" had led to checks of 35 welds so far, a third of the total to be examined by the end of June.


Contracts to demo novel space propulsion technologies
